An Indian Artist and Entrepreneur: Raisa Mariam Rajan
Raisa Mariam Rajan is an Indian artist and entrepreneur settled in Dubai. Raised in a family that was into business for decades, Raisa had the flair to become an entrepreneur. But the artistic sensibility in her, as a kid was a surprise to the family, and they supported her with all their will. Raisa has been hailed as a prodigy as she used to draw portraits by simply watching people. She could draw effortlessly and this love for art grew with her.
“The world around us is growing at a very fast pace but what about the world inside each one of us? In our busy lives, we need certain moments that help us to look inside and ponder deeply to understand ourselves. That is what art does for me. I realize myself, I learn a lot about myself, my capabilities, my interests, my weaknesses, and above all the truth behind my existence as a woman when I paint. It brings out the hitherto unknown “me” from deep within myself.”
Raisa’s artwork, “Lava” is a perfect example of this. The outpouring of strong emotions in colors leaves Raisa contended and relieved. It acts like a deep meditation, a soul-searching process that plays a pivotal role in shaping herself as a woman. Women around the world are subconsciously programmed to suppress their emotions. They need to express all those subdued emotions and purge themselves. Raisa truly believes in this Cathartic function of art.
Raisa is also an art teacher and has been acclaimed for her role in shaping not only the artistic talents of her students but also their lives in a positive way. A teacher should also be a good mind reader according to Raisa. She instinctively detects the issues faced by her young students through their paintings. Her timely recommendations have helped a lot of parents in successfully helping their children get out of their inhibitions and traumas.
Raisa strongly believes that criticism has played a great role in her growth as an artist. This reflects in the progress she has achieved in two years since she started doing art professionally. Being the CEO of a company, events and meetings keep her busy, but Raisa finds time to paint almost every day to keep her passion alive. She believes that hard work, determination, and firm belief in oneself can lead to success.
As an artist, she expresses her thoughts through her paintings that can communicate both to her and others, about the beauty that exists in nature, which at times we neglect to enjoy.
her journey as an artist
Raisa started her journey as an artist by drawing portraits, glass paintings, sketches, and acrylic paintings on canvas. It later became a space to experiment with different mediums and textures on various surfaces. For Raisa, art is a powerful medium to express herself. She likes to make strong statements on society, life, and the events that happen around her through her works. The consciousness being stirred by the emotions that spring out of the psyche often flows out without considering the chronology of the events. They get mixed up and find their way out through Raisa’s brush. Hence, she calls them products of Stream of Consciousness.
